The stylish vision and execution of the Tory Burch brand is what has made her name recently explode in the fashion industry. The timeless style she’s created is wearable for all women, whether they’re walking the red carpet, or walking into the grocery store. The Tory Burch brand is often described as a ‘preppy bohemian’ style. Here at Cida’s Consignment, we think this fits in perfectly with our city’s style and we’re always excited to get in a new Tory Burch piece. So, what’s inspired this designer to create some of these classic and genius pieces that can be found in our store? Here are just a few Tory Burch inspirations.
Her parents. Tory was born in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in 1966, the daughter of Reva and Ira Earl Robinson. Much of her fashion inspiration started at an early age because she would watch her father design his own suits and everyday clothes. He was creative in his designs and was even known to line his suit jackets with Hermes scarves. As the heir to a paper-cup fortune, her father could have easily hired a designer to create his wardrobe for him, but he loved the creative process of designing clothing and this spark was passed on to young Tory.
Tory’s mother, Reva, was a former actress who had walked the red carpet many times on the arm of Steve McQueen or Marlon Brando. Her style most emulated Jacqueline Onassis with a classic and tailored feel. As her only parent still living today, Tory is still close with her mother and has even named her famous Tory Burch ballet flats the ‘Reva Ballerinas.’
Art, Music & Travel. Tory Burch also contributes her style inspiration to traveling. Throughout her worldly travels, she’s been inspired by the art and music she’s seen. With a small boutique starting in Manhattan in 2004, the preppy bohemian style soon gained appeal to the masses. Now, Tory Burch has more than 100 freestanding boutiques throughout the country, and presence in over 1,000 specialty stores and department stores. The brand also introduced websites to Europe and Asia to become a world-known brand name in the fashion industry.
Since launching her brand, Tory has branched out from clothing, shoes, and bags. She also teamed up with Luxottica in 2009 to enter the eyewear industry, with Estee Lauder in 2013 to explore the fragrance and beauty sector, and she’ll partner with Fossil in 2014 to consider designing her own timepieces.
